Just ate here for the first time a few days ago. The food was absolutely delicious. I am not too big of a Chinese food fan but this place was really good. I will be going back! I had the broccoli and chicken...sounds boring, I know, but they really blew my mind with the sauce they used on it. I also highly recommend the veggie spring rolls as an app. The portions are pretty big so you could also share between two people. You will leave stuffed and happy :)

I am not sure how this place has so many good reviews. Even while I was there, there were tons of people streaming in for pick up orders and I was just baffled. My water was fresh from the tap and tasted weird. I ordered potstickers which were good but came with a dipping sauce covered in a layer of grease. I also ordered the combo dinner which came with egg drop soup. I have never seen egg drop soup like this. The eggs were scrambled and it tasted like chicken broth. My bf figured we'd gotten the end of the soup but in all my years of Chinese have never had that happen. Then my sesame chicken came out. The portion was tiny! The meat tasted off and had a weird smell to it. We kept trying to figure it out and came to the conclusion that it was probably old and had been microwaved prior to serving. The meal over all was terrible and we honestly just wanted to leave but the service was so slow we spent 20 minutes waiting for her bring us a check. We were the only people in there at this point so I don't even know what gives. We were both super happy to get out of there. I still don't understand why this place is so popular but I will not be dining there again.

I have found my new #1 for chinese food in Elgin. I tried several other restaurants and this place is the best. My previous #1 was Silver Lake which is now a close #2. The general tsos chicken was delicious and I normally don't care for that dish. Their sweet and sour chicken is the best I've ever had, it was so fresh and not overdone like so many other places and you could tell it was all white meat chicken and it didn't have the fatty portions in it. The beef fried rice was very good and not at all greasy. I'm updating this since today I went and dined in for lunch with my son. I ordered the chicken lo mein for me and the sesame chicken for him. He enjoyed his sesame chicken. The lo mein was very tasty, much better than what I have tried from other places. The restaurant was about half full when I was there and we still got served relatively quickly. The lady was very friendly, she was just zipping all over the place. They may want to hire someone to help out. Overall, I am very satisfied with this restaurant.

This is the best Chinese-American food that I found in Elgin Area. Tried many dishes and they are all good. Best app is potstickers. Even the Dry Beef Chow Fun dish is good. Prices cheap. Service is good and inside looks like a renovation is needed but that's what makes this an authentic Chinese restaurant in my opinion. Wife is a loud talker haha and that's another signature of authenticity! Delivery is a little slow

I've ordered (delivery) from here a few times over the past few months, and my husband and I love this place. The food is excellent quality, and the sauces are very flavorful. This area doesn't have too many good Chinese restaurants, so once we found this, we haven't ordered from anywhere else. Another great thing - the food is NOT greasy. That's a huge plus for me because I can eat and not feel sick afterwards. Only once my sister complained that her lo mein was a little too salty. But we've ordered that particular dish other times with no issue. We've never dined in the restaurant, so cannot comment on that. When we order, we normally have our food in about 35-40 min.

I am a fan of what I call good Chinese Food, the kinds of restaurants you go to in Chinatown where there are only Asian people eating and working. Chan's is nothing of the sort. I am able to speak a little Cantonese to order the food that me and my family enjoy. Upon entering the restaurant, I asked the host if he speaks Cantonese and his response was, "I am not Chinese." Well, that describes this restaurant to a detail. It is not Chinese and the food was nothing close to being good. Personally I would not recommend this restaurant to an enemy. I will have to continue looking for a good Chinese restaurant.

Me and my family just love this Chinese restaurant!!! We go at least once a month!! The food is amazing. It has so much flavor!! The staff is wonderful!! We usually get it delivered or picked up which both delivery people are very nice and respectful. We have dined in also and they are wonderful. Food comes out right away and done perfect!! Thank you for the wonderful experiences.

I don't understand the rating either. The cooking is solid Cantonese fare for the American diner. Wife and I sat down to a house lo mein with shrimp, pork, chicken, and the hong sue tofu meal the other night and it was all well executed. Good "wok hei", which is the smoky flavor of the food stir-fried in a wok at high temperature, a mark of skill. I sense their true skill lies under the food they crank out for the fried rice and sweet and sour crowd: push for more adventuresome food.

Chan's WAS our go to place for the last 7 years, actually, 2-3 times per month we have ordered from Chan's. The food is consistent and good and have relatively few ordering issues until recently. A couple of months back, an order (that was repeated back to me) was incomplete when we received it and I called, they re-delivered what was missing (30 minutes later) and charged us for it, no apologies, no discount. Fine- I paid it without further comment. Last night, we had several guests over and I placed a large order. I checked the order after the delivery person left and discovered we were missing 2 large orange chickens, they were not on the receipt, however he repeated the order back to me and it was correct at that time. I called and he told me it would be 30 minutes. I wasn't happy about it, because I had a house full of people and now the food that I have sitting on the counter is going to get cold and my guests have to wait an extra 30 minutes, when I already ordered an hour ago. The man who works at Chans called me a few minutes later and said it would be on it's way shortly, I am not going to charge you the sales tax. I said, no, I don't appreciate having to pay for it all seeing is that my food is now getting cold and this was your error AGAIN. I got loud, as he kept telling me I had to pay the full price and I was not happy about it, so he started yelling at me and handed the phone off to the woman and I was quite upset at this point and told her that this is ridiculous that they are wanting to charge me the full price, when they screwed up the order OR I would be happy to pay for the whole order, but re-send the entire order so we do not have to serve our guests cold food and she told me "you are being ridiculous, you just want free food". I have given OVER $7000 in the past 7 years to this particular restaurant to be told that I want free food! I told them I would be taking my business elsewhere and they could keep their order. As I was very upset, my husband tried calling them to see if he could reason with them and the man I talked to (who turned out to be the owner!) would not take the call my husband could hear him in the background refusing to come to the phone. Honestly, it's a huge shame, but there are many other excellent Chinese restaurants in the area that have excellent food AND service.

Hey now, I have to give these guys some credit, they're certainly some of the better Chinese food in South Elgin (the land of dull chain restaurants). It is my go to for Chinese when I am home and not away on business.

Excellent egg foo young. I don't usually order egg foo young at other Chinese restaurants, but I always order it at Chan's.

We've been going to Chan's Garden for years, and the quality of the food is pretty much always consistent. Only once or twice did we have a small issue, but when we did the issue was resolved quickly. It's definitely one of the best Chinese places in the area, highly recommended if you're looking for decent portions at a fair price.

Good food and friendly attentive staff. I have a few Chinese places between my home and Chan's but I keep coming back. I'm a bit of an Egg Foo Young snob and theirs ranks up in the top 3 or 4 that I have tried. My daughter loves their Chicken Lo Mein.

It was just ok. Slower service. Food was kind of cold.

I thought this food was quite delicious and a good value for the price. The lady who was running the place was quite friendly, and while it wasn't the fastest food, it was hot and delicious. I'm very surprised this place has a lackluster rating. They really don't deserve it.

Not good food. Salty, burnt, yuck. This place is kind of racist just because of how generic it is

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
